The Arizona community of Lake Havasu is planning a special tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Lake Havasu will illuminate its iconic London Bridge in royal purple in honor of the long-reigning British monarch who died Thursday at the age of 96. The lights will be displayed Thursday through Saturday. The bridge was originally built in London in the 1830s. Lake Havasu developer Robert McCulloch bought the bridge for $2.4 million in the1960s and transported it to Arizona in hopes of attracting tourists and homebuyers to the lakeside community on the western edge of the state.
